GROWTH IS GOOD!

GROWTH IS GOOD

As the last month of the regular season approaches it is apparent that the new franchises & expansion teams added this season has brought great value to this league both in the cities that they play as well as NBL Canada as a whole.

The additional markets have cut back the number of times the teams see each other in conference from 10 to 7.5 per season. Which over a 4 month season is just once per month at each location.

The new teams have given us the luxury to create a play off system that teams do not automatically get into and thus some real exciting story lines for the bottom half of each division.

In Cape Breton basketball has become a destination experience as more and more people are dining downtown before the games and celebrating after.

In Kitchener/Waterloo the word is still "getting out" & their wonderful volunteer advisory group are pulling out all of the stops to see record crowds the last 4-5 games of this season.

Next year we are hoping for more markets across the entire country.

With 52 major junior hockey teams in Canada that all require 2 to 3 times the number of paid fans that we do, why can't we dream of a 24-26 team league??

In the Atlantic provinces we could still add:
• Fredericton NB
• St. John's NF

In Quebec there's:
• Monteal or Laval
• Quebec City

In Ontario there are several untapped great places to go:
• Sudbury
• Guelph
• Brantford
• Sarnia
• Kingston
• Ottawa

That leaves the west that we would have come in as one group or conference at a time:
• BC with Vancouver, Abbotsford, Victoria, Langley
• AB with Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer & Medicine Hat
• MB with Brandon & Winnipeg could tie in with Saskatoon & Regina in SK

The future for this league is so positive and I believe that this can and should occur all with in the next 3-5 years.

So enjoy the close of the regular season, an amazing playoff post season and stay tuned for great growth and more to come.

West: Victoria Vanouver Kelowna Whitehorse Yellowknife Calgary Edmonton Mid-West: Regina Saskatoon Brandon Winnipeg Iqaluit Sudbury Thunder Bay East: Ottawa Kingston London Quebec City Montreal Niagara Kitchener Atlantic: Halifax Charlottetown St John's Saint John Moncton Fredericton Sydney Take us there, Commish!
