Highlanders lose to Riptide 103-100

The Cape Breton Highlanders professional basketball team welcomed the Saint John Riptide for a special Shine The Light On Woman Abuse game at Centre 200. The Riptide took home the win 103-100 in a close match.
A crowd of over 2,000 people gathered to for the special event, which included inspirational stories, silent auction, free manicures, and 50/50 benefitting a local charity. A special moment of silence took place where fans were asked to shine their cell phone flashlights to raise awareness on domestic abuse. The Highlanders players wore limited-edition purple jerseys that were won by 12 lucky raffle winners at the game. Fans were encouraged to wear purple to symbolize the effort to end domestic abuse.
Leading the Highlanders was Booker Woodfox with 19 points and 3 assists. Billy Rush picked up 16 points and 10 rebounds. Anthony Walker scored 16 points and 9 rebounds.
Gabe Freeman led the Riptide with 31 points and 13 rebounds. Haakim Johnson nailed 17 points and Olumuyiwa Famutimi picked up 14 points.
The Highlanders face the Moncton Miracles tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. at the Moncton Coliseum.
