By: London Lightning Media

(LONDON, Ontario) – The London Lightning announced Tuesday, Canadian Olympian and London native, Damian Warner will be honoured in person at their game against the Niagara River Lions on Wednesday, February 24, 2016.

Warner is a Canadian decathlete who attended Sir John A. MacDonald Public School and Montcalm Secondary School in London.  A double medalist at the world championships, Warner is also the reigning Commonwealth champion from the Glasgow games and the reigning Pan American champion from the games in Toronto.

“Damian is a London born product that’s reached the international athletic stage that’s making our city and country proud with his accomplishments,” said Lightning owner and general manager, Vito Frijia. “I’ve personally known Damian as a basketball player since he was in grade eleven, and he’s the same person today as he was back then – humble, proud and caring with tremendous work ethic. Damian is a shining light and a perfect example of how to succeed in life to all the children of Canada.”

Warner will also be inviting all Londoners, including his former high school and public school, to attend the game on February 24.

“Thank you to Vito and the London Lightning for this fantastic gesture.  I truly appreciate the support and I think this will be a great opportunity for the students to have a chance to watch the Lightning play,” said Warner.

“The community support I have received has been amazing.  As an athlete, just knowing that you have so many people behind you, rooting for you and people pushing you in the right direction, is an awesome feeling and its why I choose to stay in London and train here.”

Londoners are encouraged to come out and support Damian as he prepares for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil where he is expected to medal.

Tickets are available through the Budweiser Gardens Box Office.
