HALIFAX, N.S. – The Halifax Hurricanes have exchanged the signing rights of forward Billy White for shooting guard Terry Thomas of the Moncton Magic.
The Hurricanes will proceed with agreeing to terms in signing Thomas for the upcoming 2018-19 NBL Canada season.
"I previously had the opportunity to work with Terry through the Island Storm and have admired Terry's growth and development into an elite basketball player in our league and in our country over the past four years," says Hurricanes head coach Mike Leslie. "His recent MVP play at the prestigious Jones Cup, representing Canada and powering them to a gold medal is representative of his hard work, desire to achieve, and competitive success on the international basketball stage."
Last season Thomas, a native of East Preston and graduate of Auburn High School in Dartmouth, led the Magic in scoring with 19.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. The six-foot-four shooting guard previously played for the Island Storm and the Hamburg Towers, a pro team in Germany.
Thomas began his university career with the St. Francis Xavier University X-Men and finished up with the University of Ottawa.
"The transaction was a difficult decision to make, as Billy White was a huge part of the success of the Halifax Hurricanes over the past three years," said Leslie. "Billy expressed a desire to explore other opportunities and we were able to provide an avenue for him to do that while acquiring a top calibre player in return. We wish Billy well on his basketball journey and thank him for his contributions to the Halifax Hurricanes."
Details on the 2018-19 NBL Canada schedule and Hurricane season tickets will be announced shortly.
