Off-Season Acquisitions Officially Join Magic Roster

(Moncton, New Brunswick – August 16) The Magic announced today that two key off-season acquisitions, Billy White, and Doug Herring Jr. have both signed with the team for the upcoming 2018-19 NBL Canada season. Both White and Herring Jr.'s player rights had been acquired by the Magic via trade during this offseason.

"It's always a bit of gamble when dealing with trading a player's rights during the offseason, for you're never 100% sure that player will actually sign on with the team. We felt strongly that both Billy and Doug would want to come and play in Moncton, and compete for a championship. Both players were very interested in playing with some of the other talented guys we had signed, such as Jahii Carson and Corey Allmond etc. To see it all come to fruition is very exciting for our organization and our fans." says Magic head coach, Joe Salerno.

White, a 6'9", 235lb forward from Las Vegas, Nevada had spent the last three seasons with the Halifax Hurricanes, has been to three straight NBL Canada Finals, winning a Championship in 2016. The NBL Canada 1st team All-star averaged over 18 points and 8.3 rebounds per game last season, shooting a blistering 59.6% from the field. White's player rights were obtained from the Halifax Hurricanes in a trade earlier this week, sending Canadian guard Terry Thomas to Halifax. The Magic and their new star big man came to terms shortly after the trade was finalized.  "I'm excited to start a new chapter in my life with the Moncton magic. I am ready to work hard and try to bring a championship to the city of Moncton" White stated in a phone interview just days ago.

"Billy has really been one of the best forwards this league has seen over the past several seasons. Getting consistent scoring from our front court was something we were looking to improve on this season, and a big point of emphasis during our off season recruiting. He is extremely versatile at 6'9", having the ability to shoot the three, put the ball on the floor to create his own offense, as well as being a very good back to the basket scorer." commented Coach Salerno.

Herring Jr., a 6'3" 190lb combo guard from Poughkeepsie, NY was acquired last month via a trade with the London Lightning for former Magic Canadian forward Marvel Waithe, came to terms with the Magic in early August.

"Doug is coming off back to back championships with London, both of which he had played a major role for the Lightning. His basketball IQ is off the charts, and he has a true toughness and grit to his game that is rare to find in players these days. He is one of the most unselfish players in the NBL and truly puts winning before everything else." stated Salerno.

The former Utica Pioneer standout, was an All-NBL Canada 3rd team selection last season, averaging 14.7 points, 6.8 assists, and 4.6 rebounds per game, on his way to his 2nd NBL Canada Championships in as many years, says he is looking forward to the move to Moncton.

"I'm excited to be joining the Magic organization. I'm really looking forward to getting to work with this new group of talented individuals as we push for a championship." says Herring.

The addition of these two decorated champions will likely stir the air of excitement in Moncton as the 2018/2019 season approaches.

"These are two very big signings for our ball club for this upcoming season. Both Doug and Billy had been key contributors on NBL championship teams each of the last three seasons. We look forward to both of them bringing that championship mentality, experience and leadership to our locker room."
