(LONDON, ON) The London Lightning beat the Windsor Express 132 to 109. The Lightning came out blazing at one point leading 31 to 2 and finishing off the first quarter 44 to 19. London would not let up the whople game but Windsor did make some moves to close the gap but it was for not. This puts the Lightning back to 15 and 16 for the season and into 4th for the division so far.
The Lightning were playing their new brand of basketball right from the tip-off moving the ball around to every player and swarming the Windsor ball handlers with 6 steals just in the first quarter. They collected 13 steals fro the game and racked up another 30+ assist game for the team with 37. Kevin Ware Jr. was the leading assist man with 9 but big man Marvin Phillips was a close second with 7. For steals the starters were racking them up each having one but Bolden and Ware had 3 and Marcus Capers had 4. The team is using athleticism and game IQ to give themelves opportunites and take advantage of them.
The team was out to score this afternoon, racking up 132 points for the game and scoring 69 just in the first half. All starters scored in double digits Bolden with 21, Ware 18, Capers 15, Williamson 15, and Phillips added 15 to his stat line as well. The leading scorer for the second night in a row was AJ Gaines who dropped 25 points are still excellent efficiency shooting 10-14 from the field. Marvin Phillips was a stand out today helping out everywhere he could with 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 blocks, and 1 steal for the game.
The Lightning Head Coach Elliott Etherington talked about the teams performance stating that "Windsor's one of the best team in the league and they crushed us the other night, so we came into it understanding that today is a new day and the starter's really came out knowing they needed to move the ball." The team has continued their improved play into today keeping the team strong on the defensive end harassing the ball and keeping the ball movement up well to keep the winning streak moving up to 3.
The next Lightning game will come this upcoming Saturday night, Febraury 16th, 2019 when the Lightning take on the Sudbury FIVE.
