Atlantic Division Final Game 2: Hurricanes 122 Storm 108 (OT)

 Halifax, (NS) – The Halifax Hurricanes and the Island Storm squared off on Tuesday night in the second game of the NBL Canada Atlantic Conference finals. The Island Storm upset the Hurricanes in game one, stealing home court advantage with a 119-115 win at the Scotiabank Centre in downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The Hurricanes jumped out to an early 17-8 lead halfway through the first quarter, but the Storm refused to go away and the teams exchanged multiple leads in the frame, finishing the first quarter with a 28-28 tie. The physical play of game 1 continued into this game, with both teams battling hard for rebounds and loose balls early and often. The story of the first half for Halifax was rebounds, as they dominated the offensive glass with 15 offensive rebounds. The score at the end of the first quarter was 53-51 in favour of the Storm. The fans at the Scotiabank Centre were treated to an action packed and exciting second quarter, as the two evenly matched squads continued to battle back and forth throughout. Halifax Captain and point Guard Cliff Clinkscales hit a clutch three pointer with only 4 seconds to go in the game, sending it into overtime. Clink scales continued the late game heroics in OT coming up with another three pointer, a timely steal and hitting two free throws to ice the game in the final seconds, giving Halifax the 122-118 win.
Clinkscales finished with 8 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds. Halifax’s top performer was forward Billy White, who dropped 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Forward CJ Washington also added a 23 point, 12 rebound double-double for the Canes.
The Storm’s leading scorer was Terry Thomas with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Forwards Andy Richter and AJ Stewart put up 15 and 14 points respectively in the loss.
The seven game series will move to the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown, PEI for the the next two games. Game three will be played Thursday, May 18 and game four is scheduled for Saturday, May 20.
